ELIMINATES GUESSWORK / PREVENTS MISAPPLICATION

Stop guessing and start growing! Testing allows you to make educated and informed decisions about how to help your soil. Soil health is a balancing act. Applying the wrong amendments, or even overapplying the right amendments, can throw this balance off and have far reaching and long lasting effects. Misapplication and overapplication can kill off the essential microbe colonies in your soil and even cause eutrophication or “nutrient pollution.” Excess nutrients, especially those found in NPK (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) fertilizers, leach out and pollute waterways. Soil testing results provide you with application rates that help you apply only what is needed and fertilize in a responsible and sustainable way.

1. REGISTER YOUR KIT

Once you have received your kit, visit soil.redmondagriculture.com or scan QR code to register.

2. COLLECT SAMPLE

Use clean shovel, trowel, or coring tool to collect soil to a depth of 6 inches (0"-6").
Collect soil from 5-7 separate locations within your desired testing area. (Samples should be free of any large plant materials and other debris).
Composite the collected soil in the test kit box, large plastic bag, or bucket. Mix thoroughly and break up any large chunks.
Use the provided soil scoop to collect 1 level scoop of the mixed soil. Add it to the jar containing DI water and nutrient adsorbing capsule. (Do not dump water out of jar)
Tightly secure lid.

3. MAIL YOUR SAMPLE

Mail your sample within 1 day of adding soil to the jar
Place jar in provided, pre-paid envelope
Place envelope in your mailbox or anywhere USPS drop-offs are accepted.
You will receive email notifications of sample progress over the next 6 days. You can also log into your dashboard at soil.redmondagriculture.com to check progress.

4. GET YOUR RESULTS

You will be notified via email when your results are ready (6-8 business days from the time the sample was sent) or login at soil.redmondagriculture.com to check sample status.
Results Provide: Available nutrient levels, pH, fertilizer recommendations, application rates, links to recommended products from trusted vendors.

5. AMEND YOUR SOIL

Apply your recommended products at the directed application rates.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I TEST MY SOIL?

If you are actively growing and harvesting from a plot of soil, testing every year is ideal (preferably in the fall).

If you are fallowing or resting ground between growing sessions you can test once every 2 years. Don't wait more than 3 years to test soil.

If you test in the fall, amend, and put soil to bed over the winter, then testing again in the spring can give you an idea of how well your amendments corrected soil problems.

WHY DOESN'T THE REDMOND SOIL TEST KIT TEST FOR % OF ORGANIC MATTER?

While percentage of organic matter (% OM) is a common metric found on other soil tests, the experts at MySoil and Redmond choose to look at the bigger picture: balanced levels of macro and micro nutrients, and healthy pH ranges. These metrics help you choose the right amendments to help soil microbes break down organic matter into bio-available forms your plants can use.

We recommend always adding organic matter to your soil, regardless of whether you think it would test high or low. Good sources of organic matter include: manure, leaves, compost, and straw.

Easy to use and comprehensive soil test

The kit came with great instructions that made it really easy to use. The results were comprehensive and came with recommendations on how to fix the areas that were deficient. It goes way beyond the N-P-K tests you can DIY!

Not impressed

I was excited about having my soil tested and getting my new beds on track.
The product recommendations that were provided did not seem to go with the results. Those recommendations would have increased the minerals the test showed as already high and did not address those minerals that were low.
When I sent an email to support asking for clarification, I was told I should contact someone else.
Bottom line… it’s turned into a confusing process as to who to contact and how to correct course. The only meaningful information I gained from the test was that my soil lacked nitrogen (confirming what I already knew). Eight days ago I ordered the fertilizer recommended to boost nitrogen and am still waiting for that to arrive.
As for the minerals results (the real value of this type of test) I’ve had no response as to how to correct my soil based on the test results.
Overall, I’m disappointed. It seems the recommendations were general/canned and not actually tailored to my test results, leaving me wondering why I paid for the test.

Great soil testing service

This is the second year I have had soil tested by Redmond. The test results and Redmond's scientifically based ammenities to adjust my soil for optimum growth conditions resulted in improved production in my raised vegetable beds.
